“The best time to plan a book is while you're doing the dishes.” (Agatha Christie)

Agatha Christie never wanted to be a writer. However, she never backed down from a challenge!
And when her older sister, Madge, challenges her to write a mystery, the young Agatha is forced to roll up her sleeves and put her “grey cells” to work.
Writing a book is not an easy task. It takes a set of strong ideas to what you want to plot to unravel, be very disciplined with the purpose of sitting down and writing every day and take the time to do it, managing work, family and other responsibilities.
It was while she was working at the dispensary, during the First World War, that young Agatha wrote her first crime mystery. After much consideration about the method, the characters and the sort of detective that she would come up with, The Mysterious Affair at Styles was born.
100 years ago, Agatha Christie published her first crime romance and, consequently, introduced Hercule Poirot to the world. However, it took a lot more publications, that turned out to be big hits, for the author to start believing that she could make a living by writing. And, in my humble opinion, I’m glad she did so.
The year of 2020 has been chaotic, but still we can celebrate the 100th birthday of stories from the queen of suspense. I am sure that many turned to the mystery and crime novels during the quarantine. At least for me, they are extremely comforting!
With that in mind, next year, we will partake in a challenge in honor of the Dame du crime. While that doesn’t happen, dust of your editions, study Poirot and Miss Marple’s cases, and read our reviews. We have a lot of news ready to “leave the oven”. So, stay sharp mes amis and… be careful with the poisons. Muahahahahahah
